With the hand as the only tool, the clay is shaped instantly and directly. The same clarity is found in Mats’ ceramic pieces, inspired by the changes of nature and the delights of the table. He mainly works with thrown or press-moulded stoneware and porcelain in a style often reminiscent of the Asian heritage of high-fired ceramics going back hundreds of years. For a long time now, Mats has combined his work as a potter with teaching and he is still generously sharing his sound expertise with a new generation of craftspeople.
